Methodology
How we compare, factually.
Last revised 20 Oct 2026
A recommendation with a reason
The guided selection compares your stated preparation, flavour, occasion and budget with explicit listing fields and reviewed descriptions. The first choice prioritises evidenced matches; alternatives help you compare price or explore another profile. Each explains gaps. If nothing confirms every preference, we say so. A missing description never becomes a taste match, and a lower price is not a quality score. The selected roaster country is preserved.
City coffee stops and guides
Our initial Europe guides cover six public coffee locations in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Copenhagen. Addresses, regular hours and descriptions were checked against each operator’s linked website on 20 October 2026. These are researched editorial starting points, not a full city ranking or a live “open now” service. Public coffee bars are distinguished from production-only roasteries. City suggestions use approximate Cloudflare metadata when available, with a manual choice on every host.
Your coffee shelf
Saved, tried and loved coffees stay in this browser’s local storage, with a limit of 60 records. Clearing browser data removes them. “Explore more” follows explicit tasting notes from a coffee you loved; we do not infer a hidden taste score or synchronise a profile to an account.
A smaller starting selection
The discovery preview starts with six roasters: Manhattan, Dak, Nomad, Ditta Artigianale, Tim Wendelboe and SEY. This is a bounded sample to help you explore, not a worldwide ranking or a claim that these are the best sellers. We show up to two coffees per roaster. The exploration choice favours another seller or profile, while the price alternative uses the known comparable prices.
Explore by country and city
The geographical guide reads the wider roaster catalogue, orders the fetched coverage, and then paginates it. “Most coffees listed” means the number of catalogue entries, including historical coffees; it does not mean best-selling, currently available or highest quality. Median prices are reference prices rather than a typical basket or delivered price. Missing prices sort after known positive prices. If the preview reaches its coverage limit, the page labels the selection as a bounded sample.
Roastery city matching uses the listed city, ignoring letter case and accents. Roastery addresses do not imply public visiting access or delivery. Our separate coffee-stop guides use individually checked public locations. Some roasters have no recorded location and therefore do not appear in a geographical filter.
Approximate location
When Cloudflare supplies its server-side request metadata, the home page can suggest your approximate country and display the city as context. You can change the country at any time. We do not request GPS access, send an IP address to a lookup service, or save an IP address, coordinates or precise location in this feature. Hosts without this metadata show the manual country selector. The initial server-rendered selection remains accessible without location detection.
Reviewed location sources
For two exact merchant domains, missing catalogue locations can be supplemented in the preview from official roaster sources reviewed on 20 October 2026: Dak’s Amsterdam roastery and Manhattan’s Rotterdam roastery. Existing catalogue locations are preserved. These sources identify roasteries, not cafés: Dak’s roastery is closed to the public, and Manhattan states that its address has no shop or café.
Why a coffee appears
Flavour suggestions use explicit tasting notes or attributed descriptions reviewed in the catalogue’s product detail on 20 October 2026. They are the roaster’s descriptions, not our own tasting scores. “My daily cup” and “Something different” are starting paths based on those descriptions. Missing information does not count as a match for flavour, location or price. A roaster’s location does not confirm delivery to your address.
Listings
Each coffee comes from a merchant's public product listing. We keep the merchant's title, options (such as bag size or grind), listed price and currency, and the date we last observed that price.
Price per 100 g
When an option states its weight, we divide the price by the weight and convert to euros so coffees sold in different bag sizes and currencies can be compared. This is a reference only: exchange rates move, and the merchant always charges in their own currency. If weight isn't known, there's no reference price — such coffees are left out when you filter by price.
Origin, process and producer
These come from what the merchant states. Process is grouped into washed, natural, honey and experimental (for example anaerobic or co-fermented). If a merchant doesn't say, we show “Not stated” rather than guess.
Shipping
Some merchants publish the countries they ship to. The “ships to” filter uses that list, and may also include merchants whose shipping is unknown. We never confirm delivery — check with the merchant.
Ordering and comparison
The wider catalogue can be ordered by newest listings or reference price. Discovery favours coffees with a documented reason to explore and balances the selection across roasters. Comparison highlights factual differences between the packs you select; a lower price per 100 g does not measure taste, quality or the delivered cost.
We do not yet publish independent tasting rankings, sales rankings or traffic-based scores. A future quality ranking will require explicit criteria, a review date and verifiable evidence. Website traffic alone would measure attention rather than cup quality.
Leaving for the merchant
“View at roaster” sends you to the merchant's product page via a redirect we use to count visits. Final price, stock and shipping are confirmed there.
