Legenda spune că un păstor etiopian a descoperit cafeaua când caprele lui au mâncat cireșele de pe ramurile arborilor, iar el a observat efectele energizante ale plantei. Notele întâlnite în majoritatea cafelelor etiopiene ca iasomia și citricele sunt prezente și în specialitatea Black Lion, care prezinta în schimb și note dulci de caramel. Aciditatea ridicată dă espresso-ului făcut din aceste boabe un gust de neuitat.
