Peru / Flores de Luya
The women farmers of Las Flores de Luya cooperative grow coffee high up in the Peruvian Andes where the condors fly. At these extreme altitudes (1,800-2,300 meters, or 6,000-7,500 feet above sea level) coffee cherries mature slowly, imparting a delicate sweetness to the cup. Notes of marzipan and sweet Danish balanced by mild acidity make this medium-roast coffee a real treat! Las Flores de Luya (Flowers of Luya) was formed in 2004 by 80 female members of the larger Laguna de los Condores (Lagoon of the Condors) cooperative to highlight women farmers' contributions to the community and improve
