Coffee lies at the heart of the Burundian economy, accounting for over 30% of the countries exports. Burundi is a very small, very poor and very land-locked country. Transport is difficult and infrastructure is still recovering from the 12 year civil war that ended in 2005. Over-all the nation is in a state of very very slow repair but is stable and has taken significant steps to create a long term viable government in a difficult land.
